Acting
"To grasp the full significance of life is the actor's duty. To interpret is their problem, and to express it their dedication." -Marlon Brando
TWEEN STUDENTS learn the basics of theatre terminology, as well as understanding the basic concepts of acting. Anthony Marino Jr. teaches a class filled with explorations of improvisation and Acting through Creative Play.
In the TEEN CLASS  students engage in special projects and explore the concepts of Meisner, Adler and other Acting Schools. We focus on the reality of doing, text analysis and character development. Students receive their master classes from local professionals in improvisation, basic voice and speech techniques, and film acting. Seniors who are pursuing this collegiately or professionally work on the skills and repertoire necessary to do so. Classes are 'safe zones' where all opinions are listened to and the student's mental health is of the utmost importance. The class will also produce plays during the year.
Voice
"Words make you think, Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought" - E.Y Harburg (Lyricist of the "Wizard Of Oz")
Emily Thomas heads our voice program. A graduate of Pace University's Musical Theatre Program and an accomplished solo singer and recording artist, Emily will ensure that young voices are taught the healthy way to get the best results. With a concentration repertoire that includes Musical Theatre pieces, standards, and pop music. This concentration on a wide variety will prepare students to use their voices in many different milieus successfully. She is also available for private lessons by request or approval.
Voice is split into classes 1, 2, 3, and 4
Audition Prep/Repertoire
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle (who may or may not have been a performer, but was still pretty awesome)
Whether you are preparing to audition for top tier theatre school or your high school musical or show choir, this is a class that gets you prepared to reach that next level. Songs are explored and understood, and then, working with the instructors, the student is helped to find themselves and truth in the finished product.
This class will feature instructors Professional Equity Actors: J. Alex Noble, Tony Marino, and Cav O'Leary.
Ballet
Pointe -  Tuesday: 3/4 Teens 7:30pm-8:15pm is available for those who qualify.
Classes are highly recommended for necessary building blocks to succeed in other dance styles. WPA provides a Cecchetti based ballet syllabus for each level.
The 1/2 level is where we begin to incorporate the basic movements and steps into combinations and developing into stronger dancers. At this level we also focus on dancer health, dance history, and beginning choreography.
The 3/4 level of our ballet program is an intense focus on technique, combinations, stamina and strength. Prior ballet training is a must before signing up for this class.
Musical Theatre Showcase
"Never let'em tell you who you ought to be. Just be. With dignity. Celebrate yourself triumphantly." Lola- The musical "Kinky Boots"
The showcase class is a great way to get started here at WPA. You can take this class by itself or at a discounted price when paired with other classes. We will explore the landmark numbers from musical theatre using original choreography, ten minute musicals, and non musical plays and ten minute plays as well. The showcase also provides singles, duos, and small groups to workshop numbers they want to self-direct or create. We'll welcome the students who want to try out three minutes of stand up comedy, or the next Rogers and Hammerstein, or Lennon and McCartney- anyone who wants to show the world what they are working on.
We want to explore works of art whose aim is to create a healthier and happier tomorrow for all of us. This is also the class where a special guest might pop up as they pass through on tour or zoom to answer questions or share their experiences as a professional actor. If you don't know where to start - MTS is the class!

You will progress through dance steps and combinations as you develop strength and confidence and we will level up our instructions to help you meet your goals.
You'll learn the foundation of Hip-hop movements and how to perform choreography and freestyle so that you can adapt the moves to any song. We'll learn a different piece of unique choreography each lesson while going through each element of the routine at your own pace.
Jazz
"Dance is not just a sport strengthened by repetitiveness and tricks; its an art form where dancers tell stories that lift sprits and break hearts. That's what we want to do here at WPA." WPA fosters a proactive and supportive learning environment in our dance classes with a focus on positive body image. -Renata Marino (Co-executive Director and Head of Dance)
Jazz 1/2 is a tweenz class that will focus on learning proper dance technique, such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer. The class curriculum is based on a ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions and combinations.
Jazz 3/4 is a teen advanced jazz class that focuses on style, musicality, and correct alignment. Each class includes a technical warm-up to find your center and floor work for strength and injury prevention. The class emphasizes connecting movement so it flows and building a dance vocabulary that will bring the dance student to the next level. Perfect for the student preparing for college and professional auditions.
Tap
Tap is a form of dance where you use the shoe, as well as the floor, as a percussive instrument.
Students will learn both rhythm and tap (focuses more on music and rhythms) and Broadway tap (focuses more on dance), as well as musicality and timing.
Students learn to put together across the floor combinations as well as choreography from great tap musicals.
Movement for Teen Actors
All actors need to take some sort of movement class.
This option is for the teenager who wants to dance but is convinced it's not their forte. This is the class that will help the student appreciate the expressive potential and clarity of their dancing bodies and learn to understand the differences between the term's 'technique' and 'style' in regard to dance.
This class will teach technical skills and body awareness, as well as creating confidence and a basic understanding of dance for students who never thought they could.
BDBS
What is the Big Dreamers Broadway Squad? It's a class of special-ability students of all ages who are capable of great things! $130
Using drama, music and dance, students discover new and great things about themselves, the world around them, and what they can become through performing arts. This experience engages and challenges students with special abilities to use music, drama, and dance to break down barriers of social isolation, to connect with themselves and each other in deeper and more meaningful ways, to overcome anxiety, and to conquer speech issues. The results of this class have been transformative for students and parents alike, with parents reporting enormous differences in their children after being a part of this program.
While past performances have included music from Disney and other Broadway material, the BDBS also encourages its students to create original material that focuses on embracing our differences and who we are.
